Prevent Tooth Loss When Participating in Sports
Sports trauma can result in the loss of one or numerous teeth. Statistics show that 5 million teeth in the U.S. alone are damaged and lost each year! The best prevention is the use of a custom-made mouthguard. The mouthguards purchased in stores do not provide the best fit for every individual. Often times, they obstruct breathing and since they don’t fit well, they don’t protect well. The American Dental Association encourages the use of a custom mouthguard for these sports:
Acrobatics, basketball, boxing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, handball, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, racquetball, roller hockey, rugby, shotputting, skateboarding, skiing, skydiving, soccer, squash, surfing, volleyball, water polo, weight lifting,
and wrestling.
